Статията на българскиWith this article, I begin a new column here, intended to be from quite a long time and dedicated to the residential buildings from about the beginning of the previous century as well as my admiration and concern to their current fate and being. The aim is to follow and expose the problems that surround and affect their existence in the capital and in other Bulgarian towns. I am so looking forward to facing more of those examples leaning the scale to any positive tendency in the attitude and maintenance of the old buildings. Unfortunately, the statistics notion shows majority to the opposite.
At this stage my field of observation covers the north part of Old Sofia, as well as some examples from Rousse, the town famous for its splendid architecture of notable European influence. These are wonderful residences, rich, aesthetic and aristocratic. They are all for pride and admiration. Although traveling a lot, I am rather a domestic person. I have ever dreamt of having my own home to settle and decorate with love. I have ever longed to live in such a building, if not a castle or a palace, let it be an old house of stone then or apartment from the 1930s. I am so in love with these residences and what happens to them means a lot to me. On the other hand, they are a notable part of our heritage, what is more, a one of high standard, and their fate so should be a common concern of us all.
To this moment, I can say there are two major problems existing regarding the old buildings in Sofia. The first and very serious of them is the tendency of their complete destruction due to someone’s private and/or corporative business interests, happening under the skillfully worked out manipulation that these residences are dangerous and so have to be destroyed. The other one, also daily observed and even spread wider, inflicts the old buildings, property of private owners, and is mainly found in either their leaving without maintenance or restoration in noxious ways, due to the lack of normative and actual control. I am explaining these problems further on in the upcoming topics while emphasizing on those positive processes, targeted in the heritage preservation as well as the professional attitude in the construction of modern architecture in the traditional environment. Now, let us begin with such random example of one of the urban old beauties.
